Best Job Portals for Freshers in India (2026, Ranked Honestly)

Here's the fact that makes sense of every job portal in India: Naukri scores 4.5 out of 5 on G2, and under 2 out of 5 on Trustpilot.

Same company. The difference is who's reviewing. G2 collects reviews from recruiters, Naukri's paying customers, who love its filters and candidate database. Trustpilot collects reviews from job seekers, especially ones who paid for premium services, and those reviews are brutal: relationship managers who vanish after payment, ₹9,000 to ₹16,000 packages that produce zero relevant calls, auto-renewals enabled by default.

That's not a Naukri scandal. It's the business model of the entire category, and once you see it, you know exactly how to use every portal: be where the recruiters are, and never pay to be there. Here's the full honest ranking for 2026.

First, What Portal Ratings Actually Measure

Every major portal has a terrible consumer rating. In mid-2026 review compilations: Naukri under 2/5, LinkedIn around 1.2/5, Indeed around 2/5, Shine around 1.5/5, Apna around 1.4/5, WorkIndia around 1.2/5 on Trustpilot. Only the niche platforms escape: Cutshort around 3.9/5 and Internshala around 3.4/5.

Read those numbers correctly. Angry reviews cluster around one thing: paid services that didn't deliver. Almost nobody writes a Trustpilot review about a free job search that worked fine. So the ratings are less "this portal is useless" and more "this portal's premium upsell disappoints," which is why our ranking below scores portals on what actually matters to a fresher: recruiter presence, fresher-relevant listings, spam levels, and whether the free tier is enough. (Scores drift as reviews accumulate; check the live pages before ever paying anything.)

The Ranking

Job portals for Indian freshers 2026: tier ranking

Tier 1: Your daily drivers (free)

Naukri (free tier). Still the default database of Indian corporate hiring, with the largest share of white-collar recruiter activity in the country, which is precisely why its recruiter-side rating is excellent. Use it daily: complete profile, exact keywords from your target JDs, apply early on fresh postings (recruiters work top-of-pile). Ignore every premium upsell call; the complaint record on those is the worst-documented in the category.

LinkedIn (free tier). Not really a job board; a referral engine wearing one's clothes. Its consumer rating is as bad as everyone else's, and its job-alert spam is real, but no other platform lets you go from "saw a posting" to "messaged someone on that team" in two clicks. For the referral strategy that our EY guide showed genuinely moves applications, LinkedIn is irreplaceable. Keep the profile current and keyword-matched; our LinkedIn optimizer exists for exactly this.

Company career pages. Not a portal, and that's the point. The TCS, Cognizant and every Big 4 pipeline we've documented runs through official portals, drives close at application caps, and career-page listings are ghost-job-free by definition. Set alerts directly with your ten target companies.

Tier 2: Niche gems (best ratings in the category, for a reason)

Internshala (~3.4/5). The one large platform users are broadly happy with. Best-in-class for internships and entry-level digital work, thousands of live internships at any time, and for a fresher the internship-to-PPO route is often faster than cold full-time applications. Limitation: thin beyond internships and early roles.

Cutshort (~3.9/5). The best-reviewed platform in Indian hiring, an AI-matching platform for startup and mid-size tech roles. Startup recruiters praise the speed, and candidates report actual responses, the category's rarest commodity. Limitation: tech roles only, and a smaller pool, so it's a complement, not a base.

Tier 3: Check weekly, trust nothing blindly

Indeed India (~2/5). Enormous aggregated database, and the aggregation is the problem: expired listings, duplicates and unverifiable postings pool here, and reviewers consistently describe high-volume applying with zero responses. Usable as a discovery layer if you verify every interesting posting on the company's own site before applying there instead.

foundit (formerly Monster). Legacy reach, a rebrand, and too little current fresher-side review data to rank confidently. Its skills-based matching has improved; treat it as a secondary alert source.

Tier 4: The never-pay zone

Shine (~1.5/5), Apna (~1.4/5 on Trustpilot), WorkIndia (~1.2/5). The complaint pattern here is the category's worst: aggressive telesales, paid "guaranteed lead" packages, and post-payment silence. A fairness note on Apna: its free app has genuine reach in local, entry-level and Tier 2/3 hiring, tens of millions of users, and for that segment the free tier can be useful. The rule that keeps you safe on all three is the same rule as everywhere else, just more so: the moment anyone calls selling a package, the answer is no.

Why You're Not Getting Calls (It's Not Just You)

Three structural facts explain most portal frustration, and none of them are fixed by paying:

Ghost jobs are real. Research puts roughly one in five online job listings as a "ghost job", posted with no active intent to hire, and surveys have found nearly one in three employers admitting to it. Portals have weak incentives to purge them; company career pages don't have this problem.

The pile got deeper. Applications per open role in India have more than doubled since 2022, with recruiters describing 300+ resumes per posting. Early, targeted applications beat late, broad ones mathematically.

Mass-applying triggers filters. Identical CVs sprayed across dozens of postings get caught twice: ATS keyword matching filters resumes that don't mirror the specific JD (we broke down how that actually works, versus the myths, in the ATS rejection truth), and recruiters recognise and deprioritise spray patterns. Ten tailored applications outperform a hundred identical ones; run each version through the ATS resume checker against its specific JD before sending.

The Playbook, In One Paragraph

Naukri free plus LinkedIn free plus your ten target companies' career pages as the daily base. Internshala if internships are on the table, Cutshort if you're technical. Indeed as a discovery layer with everything verified at the source. Every application tailored to its JD, sent early, ideally with a referral attached. Zero rupees to any portal, ever, because the reach is free and the premium disappointment is the best-documented pattern in the entire category. And when the callbacks start, the bottleneck moves to the interview, which is a different problem with a different preparation.
